The IKEA journey in Malaysia started in 1996 with an 8,000 sq m store at 1Utama Shopping Mall. Seven years later, IKEA moved to Mutiara Damansara to open its very first big blue store that many know today as IKEA Damansara. On 14 August, it will be 20 years since the iconic store opened its doors to the public – and IKEA Malaysia is inviting Malaysians to join in on the celebration!
To commemorate 20 years of IKEA Damansara, a jam-packed roster of activities and offers await customers, starting 14 July leading up to its grand finale on 20 August.

Fun activities in-store, inspired by the MAMMUT chair and its timeless appeal
Kicking off the celebration is the unveiling of a colossal replica of the MAMMUT children’s chair.
Since its introduction in 1993, the comic strip-inspired chair which is part of the IKEA MAMMUT range for children, has brought joy to many families over the years. In that spirit, IKEA Damansara will host a variety of activities in-store for your children to enjoy!
Each day will feature different arts and crafts that your little one can look forward to. The activities will be held at IKEA Småland every weekend until 20 August, for free!
Nothing says celebration like discounts and offers!
Also part of the 20th anniversary celebrations is a weekly series of irresistible product offers exclusively for IKEA Family Members. The offers will be rolled out in phases on selected items only at IKEA Damansara and Cheras starting 14 July to 20 August. These feature popular IKEA products including GRÅSALA Table, MATCHSPEL Gaming Chair, NISSAFORS Trolley, and more. The first phase of the sale has started and will be ongoing until 20 July.
In the weeks leading up to 20 August, IKEA Damansara will highlight several IKEA products that were available in 2003 when the store first opened and are still in stores today. Join the grand anniversary celebration on 20 August
The festivities are set to end on a high note – with a big bang celebration at IKEA Damansara on 20 August. It’ll be a fun-filled event with live music and drumline percussion, live food sampling hosted by IKEA Food, drawing and colouring, musical chair, and other exciting activities throughout the day. The event is free and open to the public, so head on over to IKEA Damansara on 20 August to celebrate 20 years of IKEA Damansara!
